Application of composite materials in repairs of pipes for oil and gas

Luis Paulo Garcia, José Carlos Morilla

The repair of steel pipes with the use of composites has some advantages over other techniques such as ease of application and no need for application of solder. To repair the ducts these materials are applied onto the surface of the product in layers which are glued on each other through special adhesives or matrix resin itself. In this work were shown comparative results of the mechanical properties of the composites before and after immersion in fluids, and results are presented concerning inspection of pipelines will after repair and defects that can occur during the application of the composite on the pipeline.
