Abstract
Domestic and family violence against women in Brazil is an extremely serious public health issue. The historically exacerbated numbers demonstrate a cultural background that requires modification. The belief in impunity is one of the decisive factors. State protection of victims of domestic violence, through the granting of urgent protective measures, is a fundamental action. Monitoring compliance with the aforementioned precautionary measure, ditto. The development of public policies in this sense, such as the Guardiã Maria da Penha Project, of the Public Ministry of the State of São Paulo, is essential to achieve this goal.
