The importance of implementing playful activities during pediatric hospitalization as a substitute for screen use

Abstract
Objective:The aim of the present study was to analyze the benefits for children undergoing playful activities as a substitute for screen use during hospitalization. Methods: This is a literature review conducted using the following databases: PubMed/MEDLINE, Google Scholar, and SciELO, including publications from 2015 to 2025. Results: The implementation of playful activities as a substitute for screen use in the hospital setting showed positive outcomes, promoting anxiety reduction and contributing to treatment adherence. Conclusion: Play therapy is an effective strategy for humanized care that promotes children’s emotional well-being, proving to be a viable alternative for reducing or replacing excessive screen use.
