Abstract

Violence is defined as the intentional use of force and/or power, thus causing injury, harm, or even death to the individual. Sexual violence, domestic violence, and abuse are particularly noteworthy as they represent a major public health problem, with physical, psychological, and social impacts on the lives of victims. In this context, healthcare services such as primary care become a tool for developing strategies for early identification, reporting, and addressing these types of violence. This study aims to analyze, through a literature review, the role of nursing in the identification, reception, and reporting of such cases. Early identification of physical, psychological, and behavioral signs presented by vulnerable victims facilitates the reporting of cases. Within a humanized approach to care, this constitutes a fundamental step, as it promotes qualified listening, respect for the victim, confidentiality, and support, significantly contributing to building a bond and ensuring continuity of care. Furthermore, reporting suspected or confirmed cases is a responsibility of healthcare professionals and represents an important tool for constant health surveillance and for formulating public policies aimed at preventing and addressing violence in the country. Therefore, it should be emphasized that nursing plays a fundamental role in assisting, caring for, and involving the victim, acting ethically, sensitively, and committed to protecting their health.
