Pharmaceutical Care to Patients Attended at the Implantology Clinic of Santa Cecília University
Abstract: The evolution of health-related resources has led to increased life expectancy in the Brazilian population. Such changes have also led the population to new health-related habits. Among such habits is the increased demand for dental implants. It is a fact that the success of a dental implant is linked to multifactorial issues. Among these issues is the influence of medications used by patients. The objective of this study was to perform pharmacotherapeutic follow-up through the Dáder Methodology to patients who are candidates for dental implants at the Unisanta Dental Clinic. To this end, the prevalence of the main diseases presented by the patients and the main drug classes in continuous use were evaluated. We evaluated 53 patients for a period of six months. The data indicate that 70% (n = 37) of respondents were female (70%), while 30% (n = 16) male. Of this amount 45% (n = 23) were elderly. Of the 23 elderly, 75% (n = 18) make continuous use of medications. Among the most prevalent diseases in the evaluated elderly, Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) and Hypercholesterolemia predominate, corresponding to a total of 45% of the aforementioned diseases. Studies show that patients with hypertension and hypercholesterolemia are more likely to have periodontal disease and, consequently, have greater difficulty in bone integration and stabilization of a dental implant. The studies also point out that the use of statin drugs (for cholesterol treatment) and Angiotensin II Receptor Antagonists (ARA-II) (for the treatment of hypertension) contribute significantly to bone integration. dental implant stabilization. It is concluded that a drug evaluation of patients with hypertension and hypercholesterolemia may contribute to a better prognosis regarding the chances of success after a dental implant.
