Abstract
Abstract: The Herbarium UESC is located in the city of Ilheus, the coastal region of Southern Bahia. It is among the newest Bahia State herbarium - reactivated in 1995 - and has samples collected mainly in Southeast Bahia and received donations from other regional herbarium. It collection consists of exsiccates, wood, fruit, seed, photo library, and mycology collections, as well slide collection. It is linked to the Reference Center for Environmental Information (CRIA/INCT) and included, since 2009, the Index Herbarium. In 2015, it was recorded and is now available in the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and, soon, the Information System Brazilian Biodiversity (SiBBr). Furthermore, it is accredited by the Board of Management of Genetic Heritage (CGEN) of the Ministry of Environment, as depositary of the genetic heritage samples. The collection is composed of approximately 22,000 exsiccates, represented by 283 family. Based only on registered, the most significant are: Fabaceae (1,505 herbarium specimens), Cyperaceae (890), Malpighiaceae (719), Malvaceae (689), Euphorbiaceae (615), Asteraceae (584), Rubiaceae (380) and Bromeliaceae (341).
