Abstract
In Jardim Nova República, in Cubatão, South Coast of São Paulo, there is a community of amateur fishermen who decided to come together, five years ago, to recover their rivers and mangroves. Twice a year, they usually promote the Limpa Rio project, in which they collect anthropogenic waste from the Paranhos and Laranjeira rivers, and replant native species from the mangrove. Based on studies in the areas of Human Ecology and Ethnobiology, the capacity for adaptation and resilience in that community is observed, which is reflected in the maintenance of the environment. Thus, this article proposes a field class, for undergraduate students, in Jardim Nova República, during the Limpa Rio project. The objective is to collect and systematize data on the geographic characteristics and flora of the mangrove and waste found by fishermen during the operation. With the documents developed by the students, an overview of the current situation in that region will be created, which can help both the community and future researchers.
