Abstract

The constant population growth, coupled with the changes in habits resulting from modern day life, stimulates the increase in the production of materials and food. These, as they are produced, marketed and consumed, generate waste in all the stages through which they pass. The objective of this study was to carry out a diagnosis and propose improvements in the management of solid wastes generated at free trade fairs in Belém and Ananindeua, in the state of Pará. The methodology was based on technical visits to free fairs in different commemorative periods during 2017, for analysis and classification of the solid residues present in the fairs. Most of the waste generated in the fair is organic and one of the main problems was inadequate packaging, making it difficult to reuse waste and the need for cleaning logistics. In view of this, the main proposals were: the qualification of the farmers for the selective collection, the investment in composting plants, the creation of reverse logistics and the creation of a partnership between cooperatives of waste pickers and recyclers. Thus, the demands of the National Solid Waste Policy will be met, mainly in the areas of environmental quality and social inclusion.
