Abstract

Obesity is a global epidemic, linked to comorbidities such as cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. Effective treatment depends on a healthy lifestyle, with a balanced diet and physical exercise, complemented by medications. Semaglutide, recently approved, has shown promise, reducing weight by more than 15% when combined with lifestyle changes. It acts on GLP-1 receptors in the hypothalamus, decreasing appetite and increasing satiety. Its most common side effects are gastrointestinal issues. Therefore, semaglutide has shown significant efficacy in obesity treatment, offering a viable alternative for patients who have not succeeded with conventional weight loss methods.
