Abstract

Current aesthetic standards have a significant impact on mental health, particularly on self-esteem and self-image. The pressure to conform to these often unrealistic ideals leads to constant comparison among individuals, which can compromise emotional balance. Social media exposure, which promotes demanding beauty standards and provides filters that enhance images, intensifies this pressure and encourages even younger individuals to seek aesthetic treatments. Among the most requested procedures is lip augmentation, aimed at improving lip aesthetics by enhancing volume, contour definition, and symmetry. This study addresses the relevance of hyaluronic acid (HA) lip augmentation as a widely sought procedure to optimize lip aesthetics. Proper knowledge of facial anatomy, correct technique, and appropriate material selection are essential to prevent complications and adverse events. This work consists of a literature review on complications associated with HA use in lip augmentation, analyzing incidence, clinical management, and diagnosis. The review includes articles focused on HA-related complications, particularly those published between 2005 and 2021. Its objective is to provide a detailed and comprehensive interpretation, emphasizing approaches to minimize risks and ensure procedural safety
