Abstract
Brazil has an average production of 70 million tons of cement per year, ranking 7th worldwide in 2014, however this theme is very broad and complex, since it involves economic, environmental and social issues. In view of this scenario, the objective of this study was to present possible impacts of cement production on the environment and the most recurrent diseases associated with its production in the Southeastern region of Brazil. The methodology was based on a systematic bibliographical review, the results obtained indicate a significant environmental impact on the cement production process, exposing a high rate of emissions of pollutants that favor global warming, including carbon dioxide (CO2) and substances harmful to human health.
