Public Policies for the Protection of the Elderly Facing the Challenge of Demographic Transition – Municipality of Santos/SP Márcia Villar Franco

Abstract

The present article proposes to analyze the demographic transition and the cases of violence to the elderly in the municipality of Santos confronted with the creation of public policies to this population segment. In this context, the study was carried out through a descriptive research using a documental and bibliographic analysis method, based on data obtained from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) [1], the State System of Data Analysis Foundation (SEADE)  and SINAN NET (SINAN NET) Information System, seeking its meaning from Decree n. 9.328 of April 3, 2018, and which established the Brazil Strategy for the Friend of the Elderly Person. The results showed that the municipality of Santos has a significant number of cases of violence against the elderly, in accordance with the demographic curve it presents, which puts pressure on the implementation of public policies guaranteeing the protection of the elderly.
