Abstract
Ethnoherpetology can be used as an important resource for reaching wildlife information. To record the popular knowledge, as well as the beliefs, myths and superstitions related to these reptiles, a questionnaire was applied to elementary and high school students of the Model School of Santos. We observed that knowledge about this group is lower in elementary school students and that in both groups assessed there is still a strong belief in legends and myths about snakes. Thus, new educational approaches are needed to bring the scientific content closer to the reality of these students.
