Main Article Content

Abstract

Religious Freedom is outlined in international documents and the constitutional text as a fundamental right. Based on their peculiar interpretation of the Bible, adherents of the Christian religion Jehovah's Witnesses refuse to undergo treatment that involves receiving blood transfusions or blood products. Technical rules have allowed physicians to violate a patient's statement when refusing treatment in the event of imminent risk of death. It is concluded by the need to define the legal value of this refusal, making it compatible with the principle of human dignity and the right to freedom of conscience and belief.
