Abstract
Due to progressive population growth, cities have been developing economically and culturally. However, major social and environmental problems also present themselves at the same rate of growth, requiring more and more natural resources. The demand for energy, the increase in urban solid waste (MSW) and sludge from the Sewage Treatment Station (STS) generate difficulties in preserving the environment due to the need for areas for adequate final disposal. However, these residues have significant energy value which can be reused. Thus, the objective of this article is a comparative analysis of energy generation by incinerating MSW simultaneously with STS sludge (stimulating the economy of diesel oil, if it were used in the incineration process). The research indicates that in energy reuse, the processes of converting MSW and sludge into energy by incineration, presented results equivalent to the burning of Diesel.
