Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has experienced remarkableprogress, becoming an indispensable tool for solving a widerange of technological and economic challenges. Problem: Thisarticle explores the current state of AI, with a special focus onmachine learning techniques, including artificial neural networks,discusses the current state of these areas, the challenges theyface and the research opportunities that present themselves; inaddition, it highlights concerns related to the social impacts andethical issues of AI. Objectives: to present problems and issuesrelated to AI, assessing the impact on society and presentingpossible ways to mitigate the risks of AI. Methods: A criticalnarrativereview was carried out based on scientific texts anddocuments. Results: AI is a promising technology with thepotential to generate significant benefits for society. However, AIalso presents risks and challenges that need to be considered.Studies into the social impacts and ethical issues of AI areimportant to ensure that this technology is developed and usedresponsibly. Conclusions: AI is a technology with the potential forpositive impact, but it also presents risks that need to bemitigated. It is important that studies into the social impacts andethical issues of AI are carried out on an ongoing basis and thatthey tackle the following aspects: (1) technical: a) prejudice anddiscrimination; b) lack of transparency; c) lack of control; (2)social: d) loss of jobs; e) social inequality; f) environmentalimpacts; (3) ethical: g) autonomy; h) responsibility; i) privacy.Keywords: social discrimination, equity, personal autonomy,damage liability, social control policies.
