Abstract
This study aims to estimate the impact of the program "Health is priceless" to the access of drugs offered by the public network for the pharmacotherapy of hypertension and diabetes mellitus. A total of 141 prescriptions attended by the Basic Health Unit (UBS) Atalaia, Cotia / SP, were analyzed during the period from February to June 2012, which contained pharmaceutical specialties related to the Brazilian Popular Pharmacy Program (PFPB) and the standardized drug list by the Municipality, such as: Captopril 25 mg; Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg; Losartan 50 mg; Propranolol 40 mg; Glibenclamide 5 mg; Metformin 500 mg and 850 mg and Insulin NPH 100. The prescriptions that had a validity of six months from the date indicated by the prescriber. At each visit, the date and place of the last dispensation were verified to identify if the patient had returned within the expected period and had been attended by UBS Atalaia. It was observed that the patients returned to the UBS for new dispensations of drugs with irregular frequency. The drugs were withdrawn five to six times, corresponding respectively to 91.49 and 95.03% of the visits performed. About 53.90% of the patients took the drugs by the third month of treatment and 4.96% did not return after the first dispensation. It was possible to identify that 4.26% of the prescriptions were also attended by the PFPB, indicating double dispensing of medications. The results pointed to the need for an effective identification of the impact of PFPB in Pharmaceutical Assistance Management, to avoid wasting financial resources destined to the municipality for the dispensation of medicines and to guarantee the rational use of the medicine.
