Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of injuries in male athletes of the basic categories of Basketball in Santos city. For this, a cross - sectional study was carried out, in which the International Regatta Clube team of the city of Santos / SP was evaluated. The athletes completed a socio-demographic questionnaire to characterize the sample and a questionnaire elaborated on each athlete's injury history during the season. It was found a mean age of 13.2 years, daily hours of 2.9 hours and practice time of 3.3 years. Based on this study, basketball athletes were more susceptible to sprain injuries (n = 20, 33.8%), followed by muscle injury (n = 14, 23.7%) and dislocation (n = 10, 16.9%), respectively. The ankle (n = 18, 30.5%), followed by the fingers (n = 11, 18.6%) and thigh (n = 10, 16.9%) respectively. It is concluded that in basketball the lesion index is high, even for the base categories, in which the most frequent type of injury was sprain and the most affected site was the ankle.
