Abstract
Uterus transplantation is a relatively new procedure, still in the experimental phase and extremely innovative. This procedure is indicated as an alternative for the treatment of infertility caused by uterine factors. Objective: To expand the knowledge of those involved about the innovation of transplant technologies, and to seek evidence that uterus transplantation can be used as a therapy for infertility. Methodology: This is a scope review, in which the following databases were used to select the articles: SCIELO, PUBMED, LILACS, BDENF and MEDLINE. Using the PICO strategy, the guiding question was constructed: “Can uterus transplantation be used as a therapy for infertility?” The inclusion criteria used were: studies in Portuguese and English, published between 2018 and 2024, and complete scientific articles that fit the objective of the study. Secondary studies, duplicate articles, dissertations, incomplete studies and those that did not address research with humans were excluded, as well as those that were not related to the objective of the study. Results: A search was performed using the descriptors uterus, Transplant and Infertility, in combination with the AND operator. In total, 14 articles were included to compose this review. Final considerations: It was possible to perceive that uterus transplantation can be used as a therapy for women with infertility due to uterine factors, providing the possibility of women experiencing motherhood to the fullest, having a pregnancy and being able to bear children; improving the relationship with their partners and family and positively influencing mental health. However, negative points and risks must be taken into consideration. Since it is a new and innovative procedure, it is necessary to carry out more research, studies and experiments on the procedure.
